MetriNote – Webex Expands Calling Local Gateway Options

Author: Irwin Lazar, President and Principal Analyst February 1, 2023 – Webex has announced the ability for Webex Calling customers to use third-party session border controllers (SBCs) for local site survivability. Previously, the only option for Webex customers was to use a Cisco Unified Border Element (CUBE). Local site survivability provides a way for individual offices to continue to place and receive phone calls, even if they lose connectivity to the Webex Calling cloud, or if there is a Webex Calling outage. Webex will support third-party SBCs from AudioCodes, Oracle, and Ribbon, who have all achieved Webex certification. Additional providers may follow in the future.
