MetriNote – Zoom Launches Generative AI “Companion”

September 6, 2023 – Zoom announced Zoom AI Companion, available now at no additional cost for existing Zoom paid plan customers, AI Companion provides a broad set of features including the ability to auto-generate chat messages and meeting summaries and allow late meeting arrivals to catch up on missed meeting discussions and content. Additional features coming soon include the ability for AI Companion to compose emails, summarize chats and, based on the chat content, suggest actions such as scheduling a meeting. Zoom also detailed future planned features, including a conversational interface to prepare for meetings and search for relevant content, the ability to identify meeting follow-on action items, and the ability to summarize calls and messages. Zoom stressed that it does not use customer “audio, video, chat, screen sharing, attachments, or other communications” to train AI models. Zoom AI Companion is both a renaming and an expansion of the Zoom IQ generative AI capabilities it previewed at Enterprise Connect in March of this year.
