MetriNote – Microsoft Brings Generative AI to Teams Phone and Chat

July 18, 2023 – At its annual Inspire conference, Microsoft announced an expansion of Microsoft 365 Copilot to add generative AI features to Teams Phone and Teams chat. This announcement follows on the March introduction of Microsoft 365 Copilot for Office apps, including Teams. For Teams Phone, the new capabilities provide the ability for customers to use generative AI to generate call summaries, create notes during calls, and allow natural language querying of call records to identify key information such as participant names and phone numbers. Copilot in Teams chat provides similar functionality, including the ability to summarize chats and to use a bot to ask questions about chats. Microsoft 365 Copilot will retail for $30 per user, per month, and requires an E3, E5, Business Standard, or Business Premium license. Copilot is available today on a limited basis through the Microsoft 365 Copilot Early Access Program. A general availability date has not yet been announced.
