The Metrigy AI Sentiment Index

Published on: March 31, 2026

Author: Matt Craig, Senior Director of Product Development As artificial intelligence (AI) transitions from a novelty to an embedded infrastructure globally, sentiment is positive overall, but is fracturing along demographic, economic, and educational fault lines. Metrigy’s inaugural AI Sentiment Index survey reveals a complex environment characterized by polarization. Although a relative majority of users report tangible benefits in productivity and learning, a potent undercurrent of concerns regarding privacy, factual confusion, and job displacement threaten to slow adoption and invite stricter regulatory oversight. The data presents an array of emotions toward AI, from enthusiastic and exceedingly positive to pessimistic and uncertain about where AI’s value lies. People are demanding responsible, human-centric use of AI, but ultimately see value in its implementation. The rampant rise of shadow AI—i.e., the use of AI in the workplace without corporate approval—indicates that while the workforce is hungry for AI-driven efficiency, corporate IT groups are slow to react. Those utilizing AI tools and functionality overwhelmingly find them helpful, yet less than one-third are using them regularly. One thing is certain, few see AI as unimportant, and many see it as a fundamental shift in our world.
