April 9, 2024 – At its annual Cloud Next conference, Google announced a slew of new Gemini AI-enhanced features for Google Workspace, its workplace collaboration suite. These include:

  • Google Vids, an AI-powered app for video creation, with initial limited availability through Google Workspace Labs slated for June.
  • An AI meetings and messaging add-on for Google Meet and Chat. This add-on, available for $10 per user, per month, includes automated note taking, translation, and both meeting and chat summary. Note taking is now in preview while other features will be available later this year.
  • An AI security add-on, also available now for $10 per user, per month, that enables automatic classification of files in Google Drive to support data protection and compliance requirements.

In addition, Google announced new capabilities that, leveraging its Vertex AI, allow users to build custom workflows; additional writing and formatting assistance tools for Gmail and Sheets; organization enhancements within Docs; and the ability for Chat to support up to half a million participants in a chat space.
