MetriNote – Salesforce Opens Slack Data to AI via Search API, MCP Server, More

Published on: October 3, 2025

Author: Beth Schultz, VP of Research and Principal Analyst What's the news? Oct. 1, 2025 – Salesforce announced availability of a real-time search (RTS) API, a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, and enhanced developer tools for building AI applications and agents capable of securely accessing the unstructured conversational data living in Slack. By enabling access to Slack conversational data, which a company owns and controls, AI agent responses to employee queries become contextually aware and personalized, rather than generic. The RTS API, which provides access to the Slack conversational data, follows existing access permissions and only returns relevant messages or files, Salesforce said. The MCP server simplifies the developer task by standardizing how large language models, AI apps, and agents discover contextual information and execute tasks—in this case, for Slack users. To further bolster the employee experience, these AI agents will be built and live in Slack, saving employees the bother of switching to another app for their AI queries. Additionally for Slack developers, Salesforce introduced Slack Work Objects, which standardizes how Slack displays third-party data such as images, and agentic developer tools.
