February 2024 – Vonage, part of Ericsson, this month has made a number of announcements around its communications and network APIs, including the planned launch of an industry-first registry service and new partnerships. The intent of the service, called Vonage Network Registry, is two-pronged: to speed developer adoption of and access to network APIs, and to enable communications services providers to more easily consume and scale use of network APIs. On the partnership front, Vonage is now working with:

  • Amazon Web Services, to bring together Vonage’s communications platform-as-a-service (CPaaS) platform, Ericsson’s 5G network capabilities, and AWS services, providing developers access to certain Vonage APIs via the AWS Marketplace. One example is the new Vonage Fraud Protection solution, which will include Vonage APIs enhanced with AWS generative AI services and image recognition software
  • AT&T, to combine Vonage's comms and network APIs with AT&T’s API-enabled network capabilities in creating enterprise applications and customer experience use cases
  • KDDI Web Communications, to bring Vonage comms APIs to businesses in Japan
  • Verizon, to integrate Verizon network services into the Vonage CPaaS platform for customer engagement use cases, as well as to co-create new APIs and expand the network API ecosystem

Vonage also announced that it is integrating the CAMARA-based Vonage Number Verification network API as a channel of Silent Authentication within Vonage Verify, and introduced the SIM Swap Network API. With this API, developers will be able to tell whether a phone number has had a SIM card change recently, and whether fraudulent activity was involved.
