Author: Irwin Lazar, President & Principal Analyst What's the news? May 21, 2024 – Zoom has announced the availability of quantum-resistant, or post-quantum, encryption for Zoom Meetings, with support for Zoom Phone and Zoom Rooms to follow soon. With this announcement, Zoom becomes the first UC provider to offer this emerging capability. Quantum-resistant encryption is designed to ensure that encryption algorithms can’t be easily broken by quantum computers, future-proofing security as quantum computing continues to develop. Zoom’s approach restricts availability of encryption keys to meeting participants, meaning that attackers do not have a way to harvest keys for decryption using quantum computers. Zoom’s implementation is based on the Kyber standard for quantum-resistant encryption chosen by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
