With advancements to Workspace, including agentic AI, enhanced writing tools, and new audio and video capabilities, Google strengthens its position in enterprise collaboration.
Google held its annual Cloud Next customer, partner, and analyst conference from April 9-11 in Las Vegas. This year’s event, as one could easily guess, was heavy on AI as Google seeks to leverage its Gemini AI models and apps to differentiate itself in a crowded and rapidly accelerating AI marketplace. With its announcements, which include many new AI features, Google strengthened its already strong position in the enterprise collaboration space, but it remains to be seen if Google will finally bring a robust voice capability to Workspace.
Google Workplace Brings AI to Creation and Collaboration
Within Workspace, Google’s announcements enable the use of AI for a variety of use cases. Examples include:
- The ability to create audio clips, summaries, and podcasts from a Google doc
- New writing tools to refine and improve Google Docs
- The ability for chat participants to directly query Gemini within a chat channel
- Using Gemini to query discussions as they happen in Google Meet as well as to summarize and dig into conversations in Google Chat
- Advanced video creation tools, leveraging Google’s Veo 2 video engine, to create content in Google Vids from simple prompts
- Advanced analytics in Google Sheets, including the ability to write formulas that call on AI to perform data analysis, such as categorizing and summarizing open-ended survey responses
- Workflow automation allowing users to create agents through simple prompts, without coding
- New integrations with third-party apps including Hubspot and ServiceNow
All of these capabilities will roll out over the rest of the year.
